Government announces amendments to "fix" alcohol legislation

2 November 2022

Justice Minister Hon Kiritapu Allan has announced that the Government will be introducing laws aimed at "fixing alcohol legislation that has been used by the alcohol industry and retailers to stop local communities from putting in place rules around the sale of liquor in their area."

Fair Pay Agreements Bill passes third reading

27 October 2022

Yesterday the Fair Pay Agreements Bill passed its third reading and will shortly receive Royal Assent.  The overarching policy objective attached to the bill is to enable employers and employees to collectively bargain industry-wide or occupation-wide minimum employment terms.  This is because at present, New Zealand’s employment relations and employment standards regulatory system only allows for collective bargaining at an enterprise level (i.e. between individual employers and unions). There is no mechanism for parties to co-ordinate collective bargaining across entire occupations or industries. The bill aims to address this gap.

There is a lot to be said about this bill, and it is fair to say that opponents of the bill have felt the need to carefully measure their response, for fear of being labelled "greedy", "exploitative" or "anti-employment rights".

Why recording your Class 4 observations and interventions is so important

8 September 2022

Every venue that operates Class 4 Gaming Machines has a responsibility and obligation to monitor their customers for signs of problem gambling.  A key part of the monitoring process is recording observations and interactions, so that informed decisions can be made as to whether a customer is experiencing gambling harm, and whether an intervention or further action is required.

You must have a formal process for recording observations and interaction, this usually comes in the form of a logbook.

Clubs New Zealand Road Show

25 August 2022

During June and August members of the Clubs New Zealand National Office Team hit the road for the Clubs New Zealand Road Show.  The aim of the Road Shows was simple, we wanted to take the show on the road and give clubs the opportunity to get together and catch up on some of the latest developments from the team at National Office, this was particularly important given the last few years of restricted travel.

The Road Show was held in six different locations (2 in the South and 4 in the North) and in total was attended by over 180 club representatives.  We would like to thank everyone who took the time out to come along to the Road Show, we really valued the opportunity to sit down and talk through key topics impacting our industry and hearing directly from you.
