Clubs New Zealand National Database - It is time to take action

For the last few years Clubs New Zealand has been working hard to embrace technology and implement a digital strategy that will help to unite the network of clubs like it has never been united before, as well as come up with innovative new ways to help club members get more out of their membership.
From the get go this project has been about supporting compliance efforts and enhancing member services. In order for Clubs New Zealand to continue to develop this project and look at adding even more features to the database and app we need clubs to take decisive action and support the strategy.

Incorporated Societies Bill closer to introduction

The Government has agreed to update legislation that applies to the more than 23,000 incorporated societies that operate in New Zealand.
“The Incorporated Societies Act 1908 is more than 100 years old, outdated and focuses largely on the formation and dissolution of incorporated societies,” James Hartley, General Manager of Commerce and Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, says.
Bill to allow licensed premises to stay open for Rugby World Cup matches to be introduced

The Minister of Justice will introduce a bill to amend the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act to allow licensed premises to remain open for Rugby World Cup matches.
“This will allow eligible licensed premises to open during the 2019 Rugby World Cup for the purpose of televising live games that fall outside of their usual trading hours,” Andrew Little says.

Clubs New Zealand welcomes the decision of Justice Minister Andrew Little to put forward a bill amending the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act to allow all licensed premises to remain open for Rugby World Cup matches.
Without the proposed law change sixty percent of Club New Zealand’s 305 member clubs may have been prevented from opening for one or more of the RWC televised games. With the bill passed eligible licensed premises will be permitted to open during the 2019 RWC so members can watch televised live games outside usual trading hours.

The Clubs New Zealand Wage and Salary Survey is back for 2019 and open for all clubs to complete now.
The results from the Wage and Salary Survey allow us to create the annual Wage and Salary Guide which is an incredibly sought after resource. The Wage and Salary Guide will only be prepared if we receive enough responses to the survey, as we want to ensure we are creating relevant and meaningful resources for clubs to use.
Lion refreshes Alcohol&Me website

Lion has launched a new website for its Alcohol&Me training programme, which aims to help educate Kiwis around safe and sociable drinking.
The company originally created Alcohol&Me in 2012 as an internal staff training programme, which later evolved into an external offering for New Zealand businesses via a face-to-face facilitated workshop. Over 4,000 employees have taken part in the training to date, with Fulton Hogan, PwC and Colliers International among more than 80 New Zealand organisations who have incorporated Alcohol&Me into their internal training over recent years.

Marlborough women awarded $28,600 after unjustified dismissal

A Marlborough publican who emailed his bar manager for compensation for "time wasted" to deal with her bullying complaints must pay the woman close to $30,000.
Junction Hotel owner Mike Pink asked employee Dawn Langdon for $500 for dealing with her "tirade" of emails and personal meetings after she raised bullying concerns at the pub.
Armed Robberies - Clubs are not immune

While we would like to think that clubs are low on the list of targets for armed robberies, we are not immune and must take the time to ensure that we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of staff and members. This week we have seen one club manager involved in an armed robbery and a club broken into during the night.
