The new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 was signed into law on 5 April 2022. The 2022 Act replaces the Incorporated Societies Act 1908.
It has been great to see some Clubs already looking to update their constitutions and get the ball rolling.
Unfortunately after a 114 year wait, we may have to just wait a bit more. The regulations that relate to the new bill have not yet been drafted or approved, as these will have an effect on what may be required within new constitutions we advise to just hold tight at this stage.

DIA to commence unannounced inspections and visits

The Department of Internal Affairs have announced that they will be commencing unannounced casino and venue inspections and visits.
As you will no longer receive advanced warning of a visit, it is critical that you review your gaming operations and be prepared.
Incorporated Societies Bill receives Royal Assent

As expected the Incorporated Societies Bill has powered through the final stages of the process and received Royal Assent on 5th March 2022 to become the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.
The good news is you need not panic, for a society that is already incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 you will continue to be subject to the 1908 Act until you reregister as a society under the 2022 Act or until the transition date, which is the later of 1 December 2025; or the date that is 2 years and 6 months after the commencement of clause 4.

Good Friday is kicking off the Easter and ANZAC Day public holidays for 2022 on Friday 15th April. With these holidays, there is always some confusion around the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and how it applies to trading hours for Club Licences and employee entitlements.
Club input into the DIAs Reducing Pokies Harm Consultation

The Department of Internal Affairs is currently calling for submissions on its discussion document "Reducing Pokies Harm" with the aim to strengthen regulations (rules) to minimise harm from Class 4 Gambling in New Zealand.
Clubs New Zealand is preparing a submission as well as guidance for clubs to be able to make their own submissions and we hope to have these available soon.
New Zealand Income Insurance Scheme

According to the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment, an estimated 100,000 New Zealanders per annum are made redundant or have to stop working due to a health condition or disability. No doubt this situation has been exacerbated by many factors beyond the scope of this article. However, the implications of the Canterbury Earthquakes, a global pandemic over the last two years, and more recently the war in Ukraine, may be relevant.
Online Voting Options

The report produced by Clubs New Zealand, following a census of the membership, which took place between September and December 2021, provides an in-depth view of New Zealand’s club industry.
