Urgent reminder: Around 100 Clubs New Zealand member clubs still need to reregister

Circular 26-001 Relevant for Club Committees and Management |
There is now less than 10 weeks left to reregister under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and we are concerned that there are around 100 Clubs New Zealand member clubs that have still not completed the reregistration process.
If your club does not reregister by the 5 April 2026 deadline, the consequences are serious. Any incorporated society that fails to reregister will be removed from the Register and dissolved by the Registrar of Incorporated Societies.
Once dissolved:
- Your club will cease to exist as a legal entity.
- Officers and members may become personally liable for the club's debts and obligations.
- Your club will lose any licences it holds, including:
- Your Club Liquor Licence
- Class 4 Gaming Licence
- Assets may be frozen or become difficult to deal with.
- Re-establishing the club may be complex, time consuming and costly (and in some cases not possible).
This is a legal requirement and failure to act will put your club, your committee and your operations at risk.
If your club has already completed reregistration, please disregard this circular. If your club has started but not finished the process, now is the time to complete it. If you have not started, you must act immediately.
If you are experiencing difficulties, are unsure what is required or feel stuck at any point, please contact us as soon as possible. Clubs New Zealand has guidance, templates and support available, but we cannot resolve this for clubs at the last minute.
Please treat this as a priority and act now.
