Web Browser updates – Important information for Clubs accessing EMS reports

In March web browsers (Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Edge, and Firefox) will be dropping support for some of the old security methods. What does this mean to you? If your web browser is still running old security, you will no longer be able to access many websites. The biggest concern for clubs is access to the VMS or EMS for your gaming systems, especially but not limited to, if you are using an old windows xp or vista machine for this.
Initial Sector Consultation - Future of Electronic Monitoring

This week Clubs New Zealand staff were invited to meet with members of the DIAs project management team, as well as an independent lawyer to discuss the future of the Electronic Monitoring System.
Earlier this year the DIA formally established a project to examine options for the future of electronic monitoring in New Zealand’s class 4 industry. This project is part of the Departments work to ensure that DIA can be an effective, modern regulator into the future, and achieve one of our key objectives of maintaining integrity in the gambling system.

Update on Cashless Gaming Work

For those clubs operating Class 4 Gaming, you will all be aware that back in June the DIA put out a call for expressions of interest from those wishing to be involved in a working group on cashless gaming.
Recently we received an update on the cashless gambling work, advising that based on feedback, the Department have decided to expand the scope of this work to consider gambling technologies more broadly.

Online Gambling Public Consultation Now Open

The Department of Internal Affairs has commenced its consultation on the Online Gambling in New Zealand Public Discussion Document.
The Government is interested in knowing what is important to your organisation when it comes to regulating online gambling in New Zealand. The current Gambling Act is from 2003, and like a lot of legislation, it is being challenged by the increasing use of the internet.

Gambling (Problem Gambling Levy) Regulations 2019

The Gambling (Problem Gambling Levy) Regulations 2019 have been confirmed by Cabinet and will soon be notified in the New Zealand Gazette.
The Gambling (Problem Gambling Levy) Regulations 2019 will take effect on 1 July 2019 and introduce the following levy rates (GST exclusive):

Lisa Docherty has been appointed Director Regulatory System Gambling. She will take over from Chris Thornborough in June.
Lisa is currently the Director Regulatory Partners at the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment, where she works across the Building regulatory system to ensure it is well connected and working to deliver the best possible outcomes.

Earlier this week team members from Clubs New Zealand were invited to attend the DIA’s preliminary discussion on cashless gaming. Also, in attendance were representatives from Hospitality New Zealand, Manufacturers, Problem Gambling Foundation, Societies, GMANZ, Ministry of Health, AUT and the financial sector including the Reserve Bank.
