Clubs New Zealand has submitted in support of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Improving Alcohol Regulation) Amendment Bill.
The submission highlights that clubs are low-risk, community associations that already operate under strict licensing requirements, and that many of the proposed changes will help create a fairer and more consistent system.
A key focus of our submission is ensuring the law better reflects how modern clubs operate. Alongside support of the provision allowing clubs to hold an on licence, we strongly advocate for modernising Section 60 so that clubs can also meet community needs within the club licence framework if they choose to do so. We also call for more practical approaches to special licences, particularly for low-risk community events like funerals and prizegivings. Overall, the submission is about ensuring clubs can continue to serve their communities effectively, with regulation that is proportionate, consistent and fit for purpose.
