December & January Training Tour - Otorohanga, Rotorua, Hamilton and Northland

December and January will see Keith once again crossing the Cook Strait on a training tour. In December Keith will be visiting Otorohanga, Rotorua and Hamilton, once the Christmas festivities are done and dusted he will then make his way to Northland in January for even more training dates. This is the perfect opportunity for staff and committee members to get up to speed with Harm Minimisation, Armed Robbery and Club Smart Training.

Initial Sector Consultation - Future of Electronic Monitoring

This week Clubs New Zealand staff were invited to meet with members of the DIAs project management team, as well as an independent lawyer to discuss the future of the Electronic Monitoring System.
Earlier this year the DIA formally established a project to examine options for the future of electronic monitoring in New Zealand’s class 4 industry. This project is part of the Departments work to ensure that DIA can be an effective, modern regulator into the future, and achieve one of our key objectives of maintaining integrity in the gambling system.

Christmas and New Year Public Holiday Entitlements 2019/20

The Christmas and New Year period is fast approaching, as of today there are just 48 days until Christmas rocks around (that number is just a tad daunting). This year the Christmas and New Year public holidays fall on Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Wednesday 1 January and Thursday 2 January meaning that the public holidays are observed on the day that they fall (there is no Mondayisation).

Setting up your online services account with the Companies Office

The new Incorporated Societies Register was launched on 30 September 2019 and makes it much easier to keep up to date with your clubs filing requirements under the Incorporated Societies Act.
If you haven't had a look at the new Incorporated Societies Register we recommend you visit https://is-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz/ and familiarise yourself with the site before your club has filing due. Someone within the club will also need to register for the online services account in order to maintain your incorporated society. There are two steps to setting up an account - ensuring you have a RealMe login, and choosing the type of account you need.

Adding a new category of membership in your club

Adding a new category of membership to your club’s constitution can be a great way to encourage more people to join, and ultimately get people into your club and using the facilities where they may otherwise not be able to.
Introducing a new membership category does require research and planning. As the old saying goes “measure twice, cut once”, you want to ensure that when you introduce the new membership category to your constitution that you get it right the first time.

You will be aware earlier this year Reciprocal Rights made its way into the spotlight when a number of clubs were challenged during their licence renewal process over the way reciprocal rights was administered and managed.
The challenge to reciprocal rights resulted in confusion, a fair amount of panic and more emails bouncing around clubs than ever before.
