22 October 2020
You will all be aware that the Privacy Act is changing, and the new law comes into force on 1 December 2020.
Clubs should take the time to ensure they understand the changes to the act and how they will impact your club and how you store and handle membership information. We also encourage clubs that haven't done so already to review the updated policy templates and application form templates that Clubs New Zealand has released over the last couple of months.

Labour Day - Monday 26th October 2020
15 October 2020
This year Labour Day falls on Monday 26th October (fourth Monday in October). Labour Day is always observed on the day it falls and is not subject to 'mondayisation', calculating employee entitlements for labour day should be simple and can be done with the click of a button in most payroll systems.
As with all public holidays you first need to establish if the day the public holiday falls would otherwise be a working day for the employee. In most cases it’s easy to work out whether or not an employee would have normally worked on the day in question (known as an otherwise working day) because the working pattern or roster is constant and the employer and employee can agree about whether the employee would otherwise have worked that day.

Choosing a Sound System
8 October 2020
I have recently had a few enquiries from clubs looking to make changes to their sound system, so thought I would put together a quick spiel explaining some of the things to consider.
I will try to keep it as low tech as possible, but it is impossible to talk sound systems without some understanding of the terms involved. Let’s start with speakers…

To begin using the database go to www.concern.co.nz and enter your email address which will send you link so that you can login. The system does not use passwords so you will need to sign in from the link that is emailed to you every time. The link will also expire after ten minutes.
Things to consider when purchasing a new projector
1 October 2020
First thing to think about is the room size where you want to use it. If its not a large space, you may want to consider a LED screen mounted to the wall instead. TV screen prices have come down a lot in the past few years with The Warehouse selling 50” TVs for less than $500, and 70” for less than $1000. A TV will usually provide a better picture (and sound), especially in brighter environments, and you don’t have to worry about a separate white screen to project upon or how to mount the projector somewhere suitably distanced from the wall.
Employment Policy Rundown
30 September 2020
The 2020 General Election is just around the corner, so we thought it might be helpful to summarise the major parties’ (and some “less major” parties’) policies in the area of employment and industrial relations.
