The Clubs New Zealand 2018 Conference & AGM was held from 22nd through to the 24th March at the Whanganui War Memorial Centre and hosted by St John’s Club. Once again, the Expo, Conference and AGM gave clubs from right across New Zealand the opportunity to come together, enjoy each other company and learn about fantastic opportunities, new ideas and more. We would like to thank everyone who attended conference this year and we would like to extend a huge thank you and congratulations to St John’s Club for being fantastic hosts and on reaching 125 years of serving the Wanganui Community.

90 Days Notice

We have repeatedly looked at the issues that have arisen with 90 day trial periods. From the first significant decision; Smith v. Stokes Valley Pharmacy 2009) it was apparent that because trial periods ‘removed longstanding employee protections’ the Court would interpret the provisions of the Act strictly. A recent decision Ioan v. Scott Technology NZ Ltd t/a Rocklabs (February 2018) looked, from this standpoint, at the issue of the provision of notice in the trial period termination. S.67B states:

This time next week the Clubs New Zealand 2018 Conference, Expo & AGM hosted by St John's Club will be under way.
Registrations will open from 12.00pm in the Memorial Hall located on the second floor of the Whanganui War Memorial Center. As always the National Office team will be on hand to get you registered and answer your questions. Registrations will also continue on Friday morning before the conference presentations get underway in the Concert Chamber.

The Clubs New Zealand Conference Expo has become a firm favourite and must attend event on the conference programme. This years Expo will be held on Thursday 22nd March from 12.00pm till 6.00pm in the Whanganui War Memorial Main Hall. The expo will also continue on Friday 23rd March giving you more time to chat with exhibitors and touch base with any you have missed the day before.
Featuring a wide range of exhibitors we encourage you to come along enjoy a beer or wine, have a nosey and of course a chat with the wonderful exhibitors to see how they could help your club. One of the final acts in the Government’s 100-day plan was to introduce a Bill which aims to tilt the balance of New Zealand’s labour law landscape more in favour of employees and unions.
While the legislation may be new, for the most part, it simply reverses many of the changes made by the previous Government.
IR takes AIM at provisional tax

From April 2018, small businesses, sole traders and contractors can choose a new pay-as-you-earn option, rather than paying provisional tax in instalments several times a year.
This signals a shift in focus for accountants, freeing them up to help clients make good decisions about their finances and future direction.

Registrations for the Clubs New Zealand 2018 Conference & AGM hosted by the St John's Club have now closed. All registered clubs will have received an email asking you to check/confirm your transport information for the conference, if you have not yet responded to this email please do so asap particularly if you are requiring airport pick ups and drop off - the St John's Club team can not pick you up if they do not know when you are arriving.
