As time goes by my enthusiasm for the role as President hasn’t changed. I have met and continue to meet great people as I travel around the country attending various meetings and functions. On the whole clubs seem to be in good spirits although I acknowledge this year has been tougher than previous years.
Our new manager in the South Island Keith Ballantyne who started with us mid-September will make a difference. Nothing beats having people on the ground helping with day to day issues in clubs and Keith’s experience will help as has Dave’s continues to do in the North. At the time of writing this Keith is travelling the South visiting member clubs so I am looking forward to getting an update on the health of our member clubs down there.
Club Managers Punting Challenge

For those of you attending this years Club Managers Conference come prepared to battle it out in the $1,000 teams punting challenge taking place from 6.00pm on Wednesday 22nd November.
Sick leave - Get it right

Employees can take sick leave if they are sick or injured, or to look after their partner or another dependant person who is sick or injured. This could be a husband or wife, partner, child, or anyone else who relies on them, eg an elderly relative.
Prospective Employment Changes

Whilst the election outcome remains uncertain it seems some changes to the employment environment are likely, perhaps regardless of the composition of the new government. Kindergarten Workplace Bullying Results in $100K Payout

A bullied kindergarten teacher has been awarded almost $100,000 after the Employment Relations Authority found she was unjustifiably dismissed.
The Authority found that the teacher “Mrs T”, had been bullied by her manager who had a track record of bullying other workers.
Is your clubs joining process helping or hindering?

Back in August we published the article “modernising your constitution” which focused on the need for clubs to seriously look at their constitutions and determine whether they were acting as a deterrent to attracting a broad thinking pool of committee members. This article naturally led me to wonder whether many club constitutions are in the same way acting as a barrier to attracting those elusive “younger members”.
