Introduction and launch of the National MVE Administration Service

The Ministry of Health recently contracted The Salvation Army Oasis to provide a Multi Venue Exclusion (MVE) National Administration Service (NAS). This was the result of a review (conducted by a group made up of the Ministry, DIA, industry and provider representatives) of how the MVE process was operating around New Zealand. The review identified a number of issues and inconsistent practices and included a recommendation that a national MVE administration service be established to manage the administrative part of the MVE process. The Salvation Army were awarded the contract following a competitive procurement process.

Reciprocal Rights is a part of club life that dates back to the very first clubs established in New Zealand. It provides club members the opportunity to visit and enjoy the facilities and hospitality of clubs right across the country. Reciprocal Rights reinforces the club community in New Zealand and supports social visits and sporting tournaments enjoyed by many club members.
Little is known about the earliest reciprocal visiting arrangements established by New Zealand’s first clubs, however, we do know that following the passing of the 1948 Act and the establishment of the Licensing Control Commission, reciprocal rights was an established part of club life.

Poor Performance or Misconduct?

This is a distinction that is often misunderstood when employers come to consider the actions of an employee and determine whether those actions amount to either misconduct or poor performance. A distinction that is often very difficult to determine.

Measurement is a concept we all deal with in clubs, whether we realise it or not. We measure out 30ml of gin for our G&Ts, we measure how many cases of beer are left after the weekend, we measure how many meals were sold at lunch over this month, or how many sick days an employee took this year.

The Ministry of Health has released proposals to refresh the integrated “Strategy to Prevent and Minimise Gambling Harm 2019/20 to 2021/22”, and review the problem gambling levy. A consultation document is available online for anyone who would like to make a submission.
