Clubs New Zealand Advocacy Snapshot

Ahead of the election next year the Government is racing through its legislation agenda, and Clubs New Zealand is committed to ensuring that the voice of Clubs is heard. 2022 has been incredibly busy on the advocacy front and we are expecting this to ramp up into early 2023.

As we head into December we reflect on the year that was and acknowledge what we have collectively achieved.

ClubPOS - Exploring the next steps

We now have ClubPOS performing the necessities of a Point Of Sale System very well, and we are ready concentrate on the next stages of development. There are some things already in the pipeline to tidy up such as: the menus, changing customers to say members, adding an eftpos button to the main screen, etc.

What we are looking for now is some feedback from clubs on what features they consider to be the most important and any input regarding how these things might work in practice, particularly in regard to any annoyances you might be experiencing with your current system and ideas for how it could work better.

Fair Pay Agreements Bill passes third reading

27 October 2022

Yesterday the Fair Pay Agreements Bill passed its third reading and will shortly receive Royal Assent.  The overarching policy objective attached to the bill is to enable employers and employees to collectively bargain industry-wide or occupation-wide minimum employment terms.  This is because at present, New Zealand’s employment relations and employment standards regulatory system only allows for collective bargaining at an enterprise level (i.e. between individual employers and unions). There is no mechanism for parties to co-ordinate collective bargaining across entire occupations or industries. The bill aims to address this gap.

There is a lot to be said about this bill, and it is fair to say that opponents of the bill have felt the need to carefully measure their response, for fear of being labelled "greedy", "exploitative" or "anti-employment rights".

Club Managers Group Update

27 October 2022

The Club Mangers Conference was recently held at Whangamata Club with 80 + attendees.  After a 2-year hiatus it was great to be able to get Managers back together and network as a group.

At the Club Managers group meeting the proposed structural change was adopted.

Consultation on regulations for the Incorporated Societies Act 2022

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is currently seeking feedback on what regulations should be made under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and what those regulations should prescribe.

We already know that the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 will introduce some sweeping changes to how incorporated societies operate once they re-register under the new Act, however, the new Act also provides that some of the details of the new regime are to be prescribed by regulation.

It is time to make sure your eftpos machines are ready for the new compliance requirements
