Alcohol Licencing Shut Down Period

For clubs with events and licence renewals on the horizon now is the time to start planning and factoring in the nationwide statutory shut down period for alcohol licensing which runs from 20 December 2016 through to 15 January 2017. District Licencing Committee's will not be considering applications during this period and these days will not be counted as 'working days' for receiving applications.

Labour Day - Employee Entitlements

Labour Day is fast approaching and this year falls on Monday 24th October (fourth Monday in October). Unlike the 2016/17 Christmas and New Years Holidays which will involve "Tuesdayisation", calculating employee entitlements for labour day should be simple and can be done with the click of a button in most payroll systems these days.

As with all public holidays you first need to establish if the day the public holiday falls would otherwise be a working day for the employee. In most cases it’s easy to work out whether or not an employee would have normally worked on the day in question (known as an otherwise working day) because the working pattern or roster is constant and the employer and employee can agree about whether the employee would otherwise have worked that day.
