Clubs New Zealand Complaint to the Commerce Commission re SKY

5 May 2021

Last week Clubs New Zealand submitted a complaint to the Commerce Commission regarding the increasing costs of SKY Television subscriptions for commercial premises.

In the complaint it is argued that the anti-competitive and monopolistic behaviour demonstrated by SKY Television warrants an investigation by the Commission.

You can download a copy of Clubs New Zealand's complaint here.

We would now encourage all clubs that are SKY subscribers to also lodge a complaint, as this will help to demonstrate to the Commission the extent of detriment as outlined in their enforcement criteria.

Making a complaint is easy and done via an online form on the Commerce Commission website:

https://comcom.govt.nz/make-a-complaint

The business you are reporting is SKY Network Television Ltd, 10 Panorama Road, Mt Wellington, Auckland, 1060 , New Zealand.

We would love to say that we will provide an update once we have heard from the Commission regarding the complaint, however, they do state that "we will not contact you to tell you our view of the issue you raised, or what we did with your complaint. We receive thousands of complaints each year and are not able to respond to everyone who contacts us. If we need more information we will be in touch with you."

If you have any questions regarding the above please contact National Office on 0800 425 827
