Senior Commercial Leadership Role | South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club
The South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club has a growing membership base located in Greytown, South Wairarapa. We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Secretary / General Manager to lead the operations, financial performance, and growth of a well-established community club.
Reporting to the Executive Committee via the Club President, this is a senior, hands-on role with full accountability for profitability, people leadership, compliance, and member experience.
The Role
You will be responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth, improving margins, and ensuring the club operates as a high-performing, compliant business. This role suits a strong operator who can balance governance requirements with commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Full responsibility for day-to-day operations and financial performance
- Deliver measurable increases in turnover and net profit
- Develop and implement business, operational, and marketing plans
- Drive revenue through events, functions, promotions, and facility utilisation
- Lead, recruit, and performance-manage staff, including rostering and labour control
- Oversee contractors and catering operations, including commercial performance
- Manage stock control, pricing, and cost efficiency
- Ensure compliance with licensing, gaming, employment, and regulatory requirements
- Provide clear reporting and insights to the Executive Committee
About You
- Proven commercial management experience (club, hospitality, or multi-revenue environment)
- Strong financial and business acumen
- Confident people leader with a customer-focused mindset
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Professional, accountable, and outcomes driven
- Current Manager’s Certificate (Sale & Supply of Alcohol Act 2012)
- Eligible to be approved as a Key Person under the Gambling Act
