Petone Workingmen's Club - Club Manager
16 October 2026
Lead one of Wellington's largest and most established community clubs into its next chapter.
Established in 1887, the Petone Working Men's Club & Literary Institute (Petone Club) is one of Wellington's largest community-based clubs, proudly serving almost 9,000 members and their guests.
With extensive hospitality, gaming, entertainment, sporting and function facilities, the Club has enjoyed strong financial performance, membership growth and significant investment in its facilities.
We are now seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Club Manager to lead our team and build on the Club's proud reputation and success.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Club President, and working collaboratively with the Executive Committee, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management, financial performance and continued development of the Club.
Supported by an established management team, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing our staff across all Club operations.
- Overseeing food and beverage, gaming, entertainment, functions, administration and member services.
- Managing budgets, financial performance and operational efficiencies.
- Maintaining high standards of hospitality, service and regulatory compliance.
- Building positive relationships with members, staff, sporting sections and the wider community.
- Identifying opportunities to enhance the Club's facilities, services and member experience.
About You
We are seeking an accomplished hospitality leader with proven senior club management experience, ideally within a large, multifaceted licensed club.
You will bring:
- Strong operational and financial management skills.
- Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
- Sound knowledge of liquor licensing, gaming, employment and health and safety requirements.
- A practical, approachable and visible leadership style.
- A genuine passion for club life, hospitality and member engagement.
Experience within the New Zealand club sector, familiarity with Clubs New Zealand and Class 4 gaming harm minimisation requirements, and a current Manager's Certificate would be advantageous.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone who leads by example, enjoys engaging with members and understands the unique dynamics of a membership-based club.
What We Offer
An opportunity to lead a financially sound, well-established organisation with a loyal membership, experienced management team and supportive Executive Committee.
A competitive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with experience and capability.
Interested?
If you have the experience, enthusiasm and leadership qualities to take the Petone Club forward, we would welcome your application.
Please apply through SEEK, submitting your CV and a covering letter outlining your relevant experience and what you could bring to the Club.
All applications will be treated in confidence.
