Cybercrime continues to rise across New Zealand, and clubs are not immune to the increasing levels of phishing, social engineering and other attacks targeting both people and systems. To support clubs with their risk management and insurance obligations, Clubs New Zealand has developed a new resource.
This written training material has been created in conjunction with Clubs New Zealand Insurance Services, and is designed to assist clubs who hold social engineering cover under the cyber insurance policy meet the policy requirements.
Why this resource matters
While the primary purpose of this material is to help Clubs New Zealand member clubs who have cyber insurance through Clubs New Zealand Insurance Services meet their policy requirements, it is valuable for all member clubs. Cybercrime is now a routine business risk and people are the first line of defence.
The guidance covers common cyber threats, red flags staff need to recognise and simple day-to-day behaviours that strengthen the club's overall security. It is designed to be accessible for frontline staff and managers alike.
How clubs should use the resource
- Provide the resource to all staff and treat it as part of your standard induction and training process.
- Discuss the content at a staff meeting, ensuring everyone understands the expectations and the practical steps they need to follow.
- Record staff participation, either by having staff confirm they have read the material or by noting the date of the meeting and who attended.
- Review the document regularly as part of your ongoing risk management and compliance obligations.
Taking these steps will support your insurance requirements and strengthen your club's resilience to cyber threats.
