Ministry for Regulation Launches Hospitality Review
16 October 2025
Circular 25-074 Relevant for member clubs |
The Ministry for Regulation has announced a Hospitality Review, a long-awaited opportunity to take a closer look at the rules, regulations, and red tape impacting New Zealand's hospitality sector.
Clubs New Zealand is excited to engage directly with the Ministry and contribute to these early discussions. As part of the review, we'll be highlighting the unique role that clubs play within the hospitality landscape, places that not only serve food and beverages, but also foster community connection, wellbeing, and belonging.
Our focus in these discussions will be on finding balance: ensuring our clubs can continue to operate safely and responsibly, look after members and guests, while also reducing unnecessary red tape and giving clubs that space and flexibility to grow.
While Clubs New Zealand has been invited to meet with the Ministry as part of the initial stakeholder discussions, the Ministry is also accepting submissions and wants to hear from as many people as possible. We strongly encourage clubs to share your experiences, your pain points, frustrations, and ideas for improvement. It is critical that the voice of clubs is heard.
Submissions are open until 12 November 2025.
Please visit the Ministry of Regulation website for more information on the review, including the terms of reference (gambling regulation is out of scope) and online forms to help you provide your feedback.
