Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club hosting Inaugural Club New Zealand Quiz Championship

4 October 2019

The Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club is hosting the inaugural Clubs New Zealand Quiz Championship final on Saturday, November 16 with teams from up to 40 clubs expected to participate.

Believe It Or Not Sales & Marketing Manager Brendan Lockhead and Club’s New Zealand's South Island representative Keith Ballanatyne have been the driving forces behind the quiz series. And thanks to the generous support of Lion Breweries $10,000 in prizes is available and there is no cost to participate.

Lockhead has confirmed the Chase’s Dark Destroyer Shaun Wallace will host the rich final. “When Wallace visited New Zealand earlier this year the Club hosted two sellout Meet & Greet events”, said Cossie Club manager Dean Candy. “He is an amazing speaker and everybody loved him.”

Clubs hosted qualifying quizzes during August-October with a number of clubs running quizzes for the first time and being very excited with the interest generated by members.

The Upper Hutt Cossie Club has organised a weekend of activities to encourage teams to travel.

On Saturday afternoon a club’s punting challenge will be held in conjunction with a visit by the Porirua Club racing adjunct. The quiz final will be at 7pm that night.

And on Sunday morning from 10am an open $2,000 fundraising quiz with proceeds to Te Omanga Hospice will be held. Shaun Wallace will speak prior to the event, take part in a Q&A, and sign copies of his autobiography.

“I am also confident Shaun will be available to join teams in the quiz which is something he loves doing. Sunday's fundraising quiz is open to teams of up to six members with a $90 entry per team. Entries to date have been exceptional and I encourage teams that are coming for the weekend to phone the Club 04 529 0009 to register ASAP.” said Dean.
