Clubs Race Day Riccarton
Unfortunately Riccarton has had to close it's main stand due to EQ damage. This years event will take place at the tea house and will be limited to 200pax.
The event will be again sponsored by Lion and we are going to give it a bit of life with Prizes, Competitions and Punters Club along with an MC for the day.
The cost this year will be $60.00 per person (Food & Beverage Included).
What a great way to kick off the greatest week to racing.....Cup Week
Again if individuals would like to attend please contact me, this event is only open to club members.
The Sporting Front
Larry and I recently attended the Clubs New Zealand Darts Nationals held in Invercargill, to be blunt Larry was blown away, this was the first time he has been to a darts tournament and he was impressed with everything. Well done Simon and the team at Invercargill Workingmen's Club. Another well run tournament by the CNZDA and thanks for letting Larry & I address your committee.
The Canterbury Clubs have come up with a Club Challenge Sporting Competition to find the “Top Club". The competition will comprise of four sports (darts ,pool, euchre plus 1 sport nominated by the host club) with a team of four players followed by a quiz. The winning team gets to host the next event and have bragging rights. If successful we might look to run it regionally and even nationally…....watch this space!
On the Road
I recently travelled south and visited most clubs along the way, everyone is surviving the winter, although trade is a bit slow in places. The usual issues are arising and this is presenting myself and the rest of the National Office staff some things to work on. There seems to be a lack of Managers out there, with numerous clubs looking for staff and finding it difficult to find suitable applicants. Interpretations by local DLA and police continue to perplex all involved and simple accounting solutions for clubs is a target at the moment for me.
Recently the DIA released gaming statistics that were not pleasant reading for the club movement, currently National Office is looking at possible alternatives and assistance that we can provide in this matter. Part of the problem is the machines that a lot of clubs have are old or are not what the punter is looking for, when you wish to do some replacements, please take the time to examine the market place and work out “what’s hot and what’s not”. Just because some one offers you the deal of the century doesn’t mean it will necessarily do anything for your turnover. I am happy to assist with facts and figures that may help you make the best decision for your club. If you want to see a good gaming room visit Gore RSA…well done Steve.
I can now offer Problem Gambling Harm Minimisation training when I’m in your area. This is the HPA module and takes about an hour and a half to complete and your staff will get a certificate on completion. Actually allow a couple hours so we discuss other issues as well.
I am just in the process of finalising a few details with Mike Klyne, so I will also be able to provide Armed Hold Up training shortly. Unfortunately this will come at a per person cost (but hopefully at an affordable price) whilst the problem gambling training is free.
The 2018 Club Management Conference is set down for Timaru on the 23rd to 26th of October, I urge as many as the South Island Clubs to take advantage of it being in the south as it is not destined to be down our way for another three years, for further information visit Clubs New Zealand website.
Remember we are only a phone call away and we are here to help, even if it is just to vent some frustration!
