Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day - 26 September 2022

14 September 2022

On Monday 26 September, New Zealand will mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II with a State Memorial Service and one-off public holiday.

The public holiday will be called Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day.  This is a one off public holiday and the normal public holiday requirements under the Holiday's Act will apply.

We have prepared this easy to use Flow chart to help determine Public Holiday Entitlements for Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day.

This public holiday does not impose any trading restrictions and clubs will be able to operate on this day as normal.

South Canterbury Anniversary

The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day, clashes with South Canterbury Anniversary Day and as a result, The Mackenzie, Timaru and Waimate District Councils have voted to move South Canterbury Anniversary Day to 11 November 2022 (which is Canterbury Anniversary Day).

This means that eligible employees will be able to claim entitlements for both the one off Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day and South Canterbury Anniversary Day.
