New Food Act applies to clubs

28 September 2017

Changes to the Food Act 2014 apply this year to unlicensed clubs that serve and sell food, or provide food as part of a fee. If this sounds like you, you’ll need to register under the Food Act before March 2018. If you don’t need to register, you’ll need to keep making food that’s safe and suitable.

The new Food Act takes a flexible approach to food safety that fits your business. The rules focus on the process of making food safe, rather than the kitchen where the food is made.

MPI’s online ‘Where do I Fit’ is a great place to find out what plan or programme you need to register under, or whether you need to register at all. There’s also a fact sheet for clubs and societies and a series of helpful videos to tell you about the Food Act and how other businesses have found the process [insert link].

If you still have questions please contact foodactinfo@mpi.govt.nz or phone 0800 00 83 33.

Register now and avoid the last minute rush.
