Have you checked your Lease Agreements for 'hidden' clause's
Most Equipment Lease agreement have a clause hidden deep in the bowels of the paperwork that says if you don't give due notice 3 or maybe 6 months prior to the expiration of the Agreement it will automatically run on for a further period of x number of months.
For example a club discovered that their Coffee Machine Lease through Cafe Direct (now Coca Cola) has a clause stating that their lease will continue for a further 12 months after the expiration date if 3 months notice is not given prior. This applies even though the Lease has a clear expiration date.
Similarly the club has a lease for "Multivision" equipment which is done through Marac. This was a four year lease with a $1 to pay at the end to own the gear. Even though it has a clear END date, the club still has to give Marac 3 months notice prior to expiry date or pay an extra 3 months rental!
In the case of the coffee machine the club was able to get out of a bind, as they were not aware about the notice terms the club faced being locked into the lease for another 12 months. The club only got let off by upgrading the machine to a full espresso machine. The club was lucky on this occassion, as their intention had been to upgrade their machine. But it is a trap so please read your lease agreements carefully to ensure you understand what you are getting into and what you are required to do!
