Authorised Purposes
With the upcoming IGP which will include online gaming renewals, you will need to consider your authorised purposes statement to ensure it allows you to use your Authorised Purposes to pay the clubs operating costs and make the grants you wish to make this year.
The Gambling Act 2003 states that societies must conduct gambling to raise funds for "authorised purposes". The use of funds for unauthorised purposes can lead to prosecution or license cancellations.
Authorised Purposes under section 4 of the Gambling Act 2003 are:
- a charitable purpose
- a non-commercial purpose that is beneficial to the whole or a section of the community;
- promoting. controlling, and conducting race meetings under the Racing Act 203, including the payment of stakes:
- classes 1-3 gambling can also raise money for electioneering purpose.
Clubs New Zealand has prepared a model

The Department of Internal Affairs website also lists a number of examples of Authorised Purposes including Anzac/Poppy Day Commemorations, Capitation Fees, Sporting Adjuncts and many more.
