Easter and Anzac Holidays

Public Holidays are fast approaching again and you will need to be aware of what your employees are entitled to if they are working on a public holiday.

Good Friday

  • If an employee normally works on a Friday they are entitled to a paid day off on Good Friday (22nd April).
  • If the employee is required to work (and they normally work on a Friday), they will receive time and a half for the hours worked and an alternative holiday.
  • If an employee who does NOT normally work a Friday is required to work on Good Friday they will be paid time and a half for the hours worked, they are not entitled to an alternative holiday.

Easter Monday and Anzac Day

This year we have a unique occasion where Easter Monday and Anzac day fall on the same day. This results in the simultaneous observance of two public holidays.

  • For an employee who normally works on a Monday they will be entitled to ONE paid day off.
  •  If the employee is required to work (and they normally work on a Monday), they will be paid time and a half for the hour's works and receive ONE alternative holiday.
  • If an employee who does not normally work on a Monday is required to work on Easter Monday/Anzac Day they will be paid time and a half for the hour works, they are not entitled to an alternative holiday.

Above are the minimum holiday entitlements, it is important that you check your employment agreements to ensure you are fully aware of what your employees are entitled to.
