Is your Clubs constitution up to date?
Whether your Club is an incorporated society, friendly society or similar you will need to have an up to date constitution in place which outlines how your Club is run.
A constitution which is current and clear will contribute to the smooth running of your Club. An outdated, poorly written constitution on the other hand can lead to disagreements over how the constitution and rules should be interpreted and whether or not the Club is operating in accordance with the constitution.
Clubs New Zealand has put together a constitution and rules review package which is available for members to view in the Resource Room. This package has been put together to allow committees to compare what the Club currently has, and to assess whether or not changes need to be made to the clubs constitution and rules. As each individual Clubs constitution is unique, the package is designed as a guide only, and your Club may be required to seek legal advice on any proposed constitutional changes.
It is important to note that any changes to the Clubs rules must be done according to the procedures outlined in the Clubs existing registered rules. Any changes or alterations that are made must then be registered with the Registrar of Incorporated Societies or The Registrar of Friendly Societies and Credit Unions, until the alterations or changes are registered the existing constitution/rules must be followed.
If you would like to discuss anything contained in the constitution and rules review package please contact National Office on 0800 4 CLUBS. Alternatively you can visit the Incorporated Societies or Friendly Societies websites for detailed information on what is required under the applicable Acts.
